This World Hepatitis Day, we’re calling for real action.
Australia’s latest National Hepatitis B and C Strategies reflect our national goal: to eliminate hepatitis B and hepatitis C as public health concerns by the year 2030.
But with time ticking away and progress falling short, we’re not currently on track to meet these targets.
Unless we accelerate our efforts, we risk missing the mark.
With 2030 just around the corner, the need for urgent, coordinated action has never been clearer.

World Hepatitis Day
World Hepatitis Day is recognised each year on 28 July and is one of only nine official global health awareness days endorsed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and observed by the United Nations. It provides a powerful platform to raise awareness, spark conversations, and drive meaningful change in the global response to viral hepatitis.
This international day is a chance to spotlight the ongoing need for hepatitis prevention, testing, treatment, and care—and to encourage community, government, and organisational action. The event is supported worldwide by the World Health Organization and the World Hepatitis Alliance, with more than 160 countries participating through events, campaigns, and education efforts.

Supporters of World Hepatitis Day are lighting up landmarks across Australia with green in honour and acknowledgment of those affected by viral hepatitis, and also to raise awareness and demand urgent action from our global decision-makers to give the "Green Light" to prioritise the elimination of viral hepatitis by 2030.
Green is the colour of life, vitality and progress. Green is the colour of the global #NOhep initiative to eliminate viral hepatitis by 2030, which was launched by the World Hepatitis Alliance (WHA) on World Hepatitis Day in 2016.

World Hepatitis Day in Australia
In Australia, Hepatitis Australia leads the national coordination of World Hepatitis Day. Their focus is on encouraging awareness, action, and advocacy to help end viral hepatitis across the country. With support from governments, healthcare providers, and community organisations, the 2025 goal is to mobilise national action toward eliminating hepatitis B and hepatitis C as public health threats—in line with Australia’s commitment to WHO’s global elimination targets by 2030.
HepatitisWA supports this national effort by engaging with local communities, running education and testing campaigns, and promoting the importance of long-term care and support.
