Hep C Cure Available Now Campaign
HepatitisWA has launched a new state-wide campaign to coincide with Hepatitis Awareness Week 2017, starting on Monday 24th July and ending on Friday July 28 (World Hepatitis Day).
The campaign ‘Hepatitis C CURE Available Now’ aims to create awareness to the general public in Western Australia and to encourage people living with hepatitis C to get more information about being treated.
Hep C Cure Available Now
With 20,000 people living with hepatitis C, this campaign's aim is to raise awareness that there is a cure available and that they can get treated.
It is estimated that there are more than 20,000 people living with chronic hepatitis C in Western Australia. The good news is hepatitis C can be cured for most people. The new medicines, known as direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) are taken orally, are more effective and have less side-effects.
The number of weeks that people need to be on treatment has also reduced, the medicine is effective in curing hepatitis C in more than 95% of people and is available for free to all Australians* over the age of 18.
*The Australian Government has listed the medicines on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS). You will be charged the usual co-payment price for the dispensing fee of each prescription.
