Volunteering with HepatitisWA
HepatitisWA is a small organisation committed to engaging the community and providing opportunities for people to volunteer their services and assist us in our work.
Opportunities to work with us include:
The Hepatitis Helpline: This service is provided from our offices and operates from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. Volunteer staff are requested to work a four hour shift on a regular basis.
Needle and Syringe Project: Providing a limited range of injecting equipment to people who choose to inject drugs.
Health Promotion Events: HepatitisWA is often invited to participate in community and health promotion events. These may include school health days, university orientation days, community events and health promotion days at metropolitan prisons.
Community Education: HepatitisWA provides specialised education sessions to youth through schools, health professionals and a variety of workplaces.
Volunteer Training: HepatitisWA requires all volunteer staff to undergo a two day training course to ensure they are fully informed about hepatitis C. Training includes topics on:
- Types of hepatitis (A, B, C)
- Prevention and transmission
- Disease progression
- The lived experience(s) of hepatitis
- Issues for people living with hepatitis
- Discrimination and stigma
- Testing and treatments
- Support networks and appropriate referral
All potential volunteer staff are required to successfully complete our training course. People interested in community education (public speaking) are required to undergo additional training.
If you are interested in assisting us in our work please contact the Volunteer Coordinator on (08) 9227 9800 or download an application package.
