About Us

Role and Function of the Hepatitis Council of Western Australia

The Hepatitis Council of WA (Inc) is a non-profit community-based organisation which was established in 1992 by people living with hepatitis C. While the work of the Council embraces all viral hepatides, the main focus of our work is hepatitis C.

The Council aims to reduce discrimination and stigma directed at people with viral hepatitis, assist in obtaining the best possible care and support, and raise community awareness in relation to hepatitis.

The aims of the Council are to:

  1. Minimise the personal and social impact for people affected by hepatitis.
  2. Provide an information service about viral hepatitis.
  3. Assist in preventing the transmission of hepatitis.
  4. Promote community awareness of hepatitis.
  5. Contribute to community, state and national hepatitis prevention initiatives.
  6. Influence public health policy and practice, and law in relation to hepatitis.

The purpose of the Hepatitis Council is to respond effectively to the needs of people affected by hepatitis, and to enhance community awareness, health and wellbeing through information dissemination, education, support and advocacy in relation to hepatitis.

The vision of the Hepatitis Council is to provide leadership in developing a world where people affected by hepatitis are able to maximize their health and well being; and where hepatitis will be eliminated.
